Christmas Gift Ideas for Prospective Parents

Christmas Gift Ideas for Prospective Parents: If you have young parents on your shopping list for this Christmas, there are a number of great gift choices that you can choose from. You have the choice to buy each of them more traditional individual gifts, give them gifts as a couple who are expecting, or give them something special to use with their new baby.

When you try to decide what gift will be given to a couple who will have a baby, it is important to know how far they are and when the baby is born. Personally, I usually don't like the gift to use for their baby until after the prospective mother is in the fifth or sixth month of pregnancy. Before that there was too much that could be wrong and I did not want my gift to turn into a sad reminder if something happened.
So, before this time I tend to give gifts to couples together or individually. What I give depends on how well I know people and what their interests are.

When you will present a couple who expects you to have a unique choice to give them something they can use before the baby comes or after. A good gift before the baby comes is like a day at the spa, movie tickets, and other events that will be difficult to attend as soon as the baby is born. I like to take this opportunity to give parents something that will help them relax and just have fun.

When you will give a gift for use with a new baby, try and stick to neutral colors if the baby's gender is unknown to you or your parents. You can choose from a stock of generic baby items that are endless at the moment. You can do anything, from simple gifts such as cute clothes or designer shoes, to baby crib gifts or other furniture.

As parents, here are some gifts that we receive, or hope we have, for holidays before the birth of our children:

  1. Nappies, diapers and diapers again. Seriously, babies use lots of diapers and even if parents plan to use cloth, disposable clothing still has to be used in some situations. Ask what their choice is, paper or cloth, and then leave from there. Also, remember that babies are only very small for a very, very short period of time. Buy diapers that can be used when babies are older than newborns. A large supply of diaper tissue is also needed and appreciated as a gift.
  2. Generally baby showers give parents more than enough cute clothes to survive throughout their first year. So, for a holiday giving a good idea can be a basket of all the important items that babies need in the first year of their lives. Examples include: diaper rash cream, tooth gel, teeth and pacifiers, nail clippers, baby shampoo and bath soap, and other small items that you can find in baby aisles in any local store that you think parents will enjoy.
  3. Furniture for baby's rooms can be expensive. However, if you and all your family members do it together and share costs, you can surprise prospective parents with a very good gift certificate to your local furniture store. If you know what furniture they are looking for, you also have the choice to buy it and prepare it for them.
  4. A good quality car seat that can last for years is a must have for all parents. However, going out and spending a few hundred dollars in a car seat can be difficult for young parents to do. This makes the car seat an option.
Hopefully this gives you some ideas when you go shopping for Christmas this year for prospective parents on your list.
